Shortage of Gasoline: Are We Returning to Long Lines?

Fadi Abu Shakra, a representative of fuel distributors, confirmed that “distributors and stations have been suffering from a gasoline shortage since the day before the parliamentary elections.” He said, “We took this matter upon ourselves and did not close the stations; we continued to supply gasoline to citizens during the election period, even though we had not received any gasoline from the importing companies since last Friday.” Abu Shakra added in a call with the National News Agency: “Today, we were surprised by a price increase of 35,000 Lebanese Liras per gasoline can, knowing that companies also did not deliver fuel to the stations today due to an issue with banks and the Central Bank regarding the transfer of funds at the Sayrafa rate.” He urged the government, its president, and relevant parties to “act quickly before it is too late to resolve the issue, as citizens can no longer endure more crises and a return to long lines.”
