At Least 16 Dead and Dozens Injured in Random Shooting in America - Video

NBC News reported, citing a police source, that at least 16 people have died and between 50 and 60 others have been injured in a random shooting in Lewiston, Maine. Maine State Police and a local official had previously reported the shooting on Wednesday evening but did not provide further details. Maine State Police on X platform stated, "There is a person shooting in Lewiston. We ask people to shelter in place. Please stay indoors and keep your doors closed. Law enforcement is currently investigating at multiple sites."

The office of the Mayor of Androscoggin posted two pictures of the suspect on Facebook, stating he is at large. The mayor urged the public to help identify the suspect, described as a bearded man wearing a long-sleeve shirt and jeans, who was carrying a firearm at the shooting site.

Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston issued a statement indicating it is responding to many injuries and the random shooting while coordinating with regional hospitals to receive patients. Lewiston is part of the Androscoggin area and is located about 56 kilometers north of Portland, the largest city in Maine. The Sun Journal reported, citing a Lewiston police spokesperson, that shootings occurred at three different locations. A Washington official stated that President Joe Biden has been informed about the incident and will continue to receive updates.
