The Yemeni Parliament in Sanaa has welcomed the U.S. initiative to end the war and cease military support to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
According to Al-Mayadeen channel, the Yemeni Parliament urged the United Nations to act quickly to stop the war and lift the blockade on Yemen. In a related context, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, has begun a two-day visit to Iran, where he will meet with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif and several Iranian officials.
This visit is part of the diplomatic efforts being made by the Special Envoy to reach a political solution to the conflict in Yemen through negotiations that meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people. Supporting an agreement between the warring parties on a nationwide ceasefire, implementing urgent humanitarian measures, and resuming the political process are the top priorities for the Special Envoy.
Earlier, Yemen's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak, confirmed that peace is the only path to resolving the political crisis in Yemen and addressing its catastrophic humanitarian implications.
President Joe Biden had announced the return of U.S. diplomacy following four years of diminished U.S. international commitments during former President Donald Trump's administration. In a statement at the U.S. State Department, he called for an end to the support for the war in Yemen, saying, “I have instructed my team specialized in the Middle East to work towards a ceasefire to deliver humanitarian aid and open dialogue.”
