UAE Announces Vaccination of Children Under 12 Against COVID-19

The health authorities in the UAE have announced that they will provide the COVID-19 vaccine to children aged between 3 to 17 years. The Ministry of Health and Prevention stated in a release on Monday that it has opened emergency registration for the "Sinopharm" vaccine for this age group, as reported by the official Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The UAE ministry noted that the decision to vaccinate children with the Sinopharm vaccine was made "based on the results of clinical studies and the rigorous evaluation carried out for emergency use authorization and local assessment that complies with the approved regulations."

The statement from the UAE health ministry emphasized that "the approval of the vaccine comes as part of reinforcing the UAE’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 virus, affirming its proactive approach to caring for the health and safety of community members."

The UAE is considered one of the leading countries globally in vaccination efforts, having administered over 16 million doses to its population of 9 million, resulting in a vaccination rate exceeding 70% of the total population, according to official data.
