Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid stated that assigning responsibility for the Al-Aqsa Mosque to National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir was a decision known to lead to disaster. The Hebrew website "Walla" reported Lapid's comments, indicating that "Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was aware of the impending catastrophe when he appointed Ben Gvir as National Security Minister." He emphasized that "there are irresponsible individuals sitting in the cabinet." Lapid's remarks came in the wake of events at the Al-Aqsa Mosque two days ago when Israeli forces stormed the mosque, assaulted worshippers, and attempted to forcibly remove them.
