Brentford Signs Schade from Freiburg in Record Deal

The Premier League club Brentford announced on Monday that they have signed Freiburg player Kevin Schade on a permanent transfer after the winger spent the second half of the 2022-2023 season on loan in England. Brentford stated that "Schade has signed a five-year contract until June 2028."

The financial details were not disclosed, but media reports indicated that the fee is £22 million ($27.59 million), making him Brentford's most expensive signing in the club's history. Brentford's Director of Football, Phil Giles, said, "We are all pleased with Kevin's performance so far both on and off the pitch, and his continuation with the club until 2028 is fantastic." He expressed hope that "Kevin and Brentford can achieve more success and progress."

The 21-year-old forward joined Brentford in January, making 19 appearances during his loan spell, helping the team secure ninth place in the league. Germany coach Hansi Flick called Schade up for friendly matches against Peru and Belgium in March, where he played his first match as a substitute against Peru and assisted a goal against Belgium. Brentford also signed goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Freiburg earlier this month.
