Russian Defenses Thwart Drone Attack on Moscow

The state-owned Russian news agency TASS reported that Russian air defense forces shot down a Ukrainian drone near Moscow early on Saturday without apparently causing any damage or injuries. The agency cited the Russian Ministry of Defense, stating that the attack, which was intercepted over the Istra area northwest of the capital, was an attempt by Ukraine to attack Russian facilities. TASS quoted Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on his Telegram channel, indicating that initial reports showed no injuries or damage, but "emergency services are working at the scene."

TASS also noted that flights resumed at Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo airports in Moscow after being suspended. The news of the attack on Russia follows Russian airstrikes on Ukraine the previous day, which officials stated resulted in the deaths of a 10-year-old child and their grandmother in the city of Kharkiv, causing material damage in the Odessa region. Ukrainian officials reported that dozens of people were killed in the village of Hroza in northeastern Ukraine during a gathering to commemorate a Ukrainian soldier.
