Manchester City, the Premier League champion, and Colorado Rapids, a competitor in Major League Soccer, confirmed last night the transfer of American goalkeeper Zack Steffen from City to Colorado Rapids. Steffen, 28, has signed a five-year contract with the American club that includes the option for an additional year. Steffen leaves City after four seasons during which he made 21 appearances, mostly in domestic cup competitions. He has 29 international caps for the United States and spent the 2022-2023 season on loan at Middlesbrough in the English Championship, where he played over 40 league matches as the club reached the playoff for promotion to the Premier League. Colorado Rapids' president, Padraig Smith, stated, "Zack is a rare caliber goalkeeper with tremendous experience at both the international and domestic levels."
