Candidates for the Position of Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament

In Iraq, political sources have confirmed that the candidates proposed to take over the position of Speaker of the Parliament, following the termination of Mohamed al-Halbousi's membership by a decision from the Federal Court, include (Salem Mattar al-Aisawi, Shalaan al-Karim, Abdul Karim Abtan, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani). It was noted that these names were officially received by the Coordination Framework from the Sunni forces, and the Leadership Alliance had previously submitted its candidates for the position of Speaker of the Parliament. A brief statement from the Coordination Framework stated that "the Secretary-General of the Coordination Framework, Abbas al-Amiri, announces the receipt of names of the parliamentary presidency candidates from the Leadership Alliance." The Leadership Alliance includes both the Sovereignty bloc, led by Khamis al-Khanjar, and the Progress Party, led by the former Speaker of the Parliament. The Federal Supreme Court, "the highest judicial authority in Iraq," announced on Tuesday, November 14, the termination of the parliamentary membership of Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi, following a lawsuit filed against him by MP Laith al-Dulaimi who accused him of falsifying his resignation from parliamentary membership, which resulted in the Federal Court terminating both their memberships (al-Halbousi and al-Dulaimi).
