Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares indicated today, Monday, that "Spain will send an additional amount of 3.5 million euros (3.8 million dollars) to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as aid." Albares stated in a conversation with lawmakers: "UNRWA is in a desperate situation, and there is a real danger of its humanitarian activities in Gaza being paralyzed within a few weeks." Major donors to UNRWA, including the United States and Germany, have suspended funding amid accusations of involvement in the October 7 attacks by around 12 of the agency's Palestinian employees out of tens of thousands. Madrid has provided direct contributions totaling 18.5 million euros to UNRWA in 2023, including ten million euros approved in December following a decision to triple development and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territories.
