Al-Nassr, competing in the Saudi Professional League, announced today, Thursday, the signing of Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte from treble-winning Manchester City. The team shared a video on the social media platform X featuring Laporte saying, "Hello guys, Laporte has arrived in Saudi Arabia."
Meanwhile, Manchester City stated: "After five wonderful years at City, Laporte has completed a permanent move to Al-Nassr." Laporte also posted a farewell message on social media yesterday, Wednesday, thanking the club's fans for their support.
Despite playing for the French youth teams, Laporte switched his allegiance to Spain in 2021 and has since played 22 international matches for the national team. The signing of the Spanish international comes after Al-Nassr's coach, Luis Castro, requested a left-footed center-back.
Laporte is the latest addition to Al-Nassr, which has made significant signings during the current transfer window, bringing in the likes of Seko Fofana, Marcelo Brozović, Alex Telles, and Sadio Mané, joining captain Cristiano Ronaldo, who transferred to the team earlier this year. Laporte, 29, a winner of the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League last season, joined City from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018.
