Jordan's King Abdullah II directed the government on Wednesday to prepare a draft law for general amnesty and proceed with its constitutional procedures. This royal directive was issued on the occasion of the silver jubilee marking the king's 25 years of reign and constitutional authority.
The king stressed the importance of ensuring that the draft law serves the public interest, preserves personal and civil rights according to the principles of justice and the rule of law, and does not conflict with national security and community peace.
He expressed hope that the draft law would help alleviate burdens on citizens, assist those who have strayed from the right path in correcting their course, and contribute to fostering a spirit of positivity and tolerance in society while promoting the concept of restorative justice.
The king emphasized the significance of this step as an opportunity for change in the lives of those who will be included in the general amnesty once enacted, facilitating their reintegration into social life and active engagement within the framework of respecting the law and citizens' rights.
