Today, Friday, the Speaker of the Parliament, Nabih Berri, received a delegation from the Democratic Gathering bloc in Ain al-Tineh, which included MPs Marwan Hamadeh, Hadi Abu al-Hassan, Akram Shihab, Faisal al-Sayyag, and Bilal Abdullah. The meeting addressed general conditions, political developments, and developmental and environmental issues.
After the meeting, MP Akram Shihab stated: "My colleagues and I were honored to visit His Excellency the President, who was, as usual, broad-minded and wise. The subject revolved around the decision of the Union of Municipalities in the suburbs to suspend the Cabinet's decision to collect solid domestic waste from the Aley, Chouf, and Baabda districts, as well as a large part of Beirut. Of course, in this most difficult political situation we are currently experiencing, alongside the disastrous financial circumstances impacting municipalities, there are significant challenges regarding municipal alternatives. We asked His Excellency to suspend the decision until a comprehensive meeting can take place, possibly on Monday at the office of the Minister of Environment with the relevant parties to establish a short-term and stable long-term plan with the Minister of Environment and the Ministry of Environment. As usual, the President has agreed to this request."
Shihab added: "We hope to meet on Monday and continue discussing this matter to prevent the country from being overwhelmed by waste during this challenging time, as I mentioned regarding the ongoing internal Lebanese political, economic, and social situation and the brutal aggressions in southern Lebanon."
Berri also received Mr. Suleiman Jan Ubayd. Additionally, Speaker Nabih Berri made a phone call to Army Commander General Joseph Aoun to offer condolences on the death of his mother. Berri also called the Catholicos of Cilicia for Armenian Orthodox, Aram I Keshishian, congratulating him on the occasion of Christmas.
