The media office of Minister of Public Works in the caretaker government, Ali Hamieh, stated in a press release that "in the context of the ongoing follow-up by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport during the previous period, and following the meeting held last week with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, which was dedicated to discussing the collapse occurring on the Chka-North highway, a proposal was presented which the ministry has worked on to secure funding for the repair works for the collapse."
The statement added: "Today, the Cabinet approved the request of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to complete the repair works on the Chka-North road from the available amounts for road maintenance at the ministry, with the condition that these funds be transferred to the Higher Relief Committee to continue the work, ensuring public safety."
The office noted: "It is worth mentioning that this road had been contracted by the Higher Relief Committee under the mandate of the Cabinet in 2019, before work was halted at that time due to the financial crisis that struck Lebanon."
