Liverpool has announced its contract with Arne Slot, the coach of Feyenoord, to succeed Jürgen Klopp next season. The club stated in a press release: "We are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Arne Slot to become the new head coach of the team, officially taking up the position on June 1, 2024, subject to a work permit."
Feyenoord issued an official statement today regarding the future of their coach Arne Slot, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool. The club announced the end of Slot's adventure, who is 45 years old, with the team, sharing a video featuring his highlights with Feyenoord. The club commented on the video with the words: "The era of Arne Slot is coming to an end... Let's enjoy the last moments."
"I have incredibly enjoyed three years at Feyenoord and felt at home from day one, both within the club and with the supporters. Achieving a European final during that time and winning several trophies makes me more than proud," Slot said.
Slot took on the role of Feyenoord's coach in July 2021, leading the team in 149 matches with a win rate of 65.10%. Under Slot's leadership, Feyenoord won both the league and cup titles in the Netherlands and came close to winning the UEFA Conference League, losing 1-0 to Roma in the final in 2022.
Slot had extended his contract with Feyenoord at the end of last season until 2026, and media reports indicated that Liverpool needed to pay an undisclosed amount to the Dutch club to secure the services of the Dutch coach. Slot's success and the entertaining football he provided attracted the interest of several English clubs, including Crystal Palace and Leeds United, before Tottenham attempted to lure him to North London at the end of last season. However, he decided to stay at Feyenoord and extend his contract, but Liverpool's approach proved irresistible, and Slot will now take on the task of succeeding the beloved Klopp, who joined in 2015 and built a legacy over nearly 500 matches.
