FC Barcelona received a serious blow regarding one of its prominent players' injuries during the current summer. Ronald Araújo, Barcelona's defender, was injured during the Uruguay vs. Brazil match in the quarter-finals of the Copa América, which his country won on penalties.
Barcelona stated in an official announcement: "Examinations conducted at the sports city show that Araújo is suffering from an injury to the hamstring tendon of the right thigh." They added: "In the coming days, Araújo will undergo surgery by Lassi Lempainen, under the supervision of the club's medical services in Finland. After the surgery is completed, we will issue a new medical statement."
According to the newspaper "Sport," Araújo underwent further medical examinations on Monday upon his arrival in Barcelona to determine the extent of the injury. It indicated that Araújo's injury occurred in a critical area, making surgery the only option, as conservative treatment would not be a suitable choice for completely overcoming the injury.
The report noted that surgery is the only alternative to avoid a future setback; however, Araújo will be sidelined for more than four months due to this procedure.
