The Belgian Football Federation apologized on Saturday after posting a video on social media in which midfielder Amadou Onana stated he would "circle" France captain Kylian Mbappé when the two teams meet in the Round of 16 at Euro 2024 on Monday. The deleted video featured comedian Pablo Andres singing "Who will circle Mbappé's leg?" followed by Onana responding, "Amadou Onana."
Belgium's media spokesperson Stefan Van Loock apologized at the team's daily press conference on Saturday, stating, "The intent of the video was to be humorous, but it has since been deleted. We apologize to anyone who felt offended by the video. This concludes the matter for us."
The video was not well-received in the French media and generated extensive coverage. Mbappé suffered a nose injury during France's match against Austria and played the final group game against Poland wearing a protective mask.
