De Rossi Extends Contract with Roma Until 2027

AS Roma announced today, Tuesday, the extension of midfielder Daniele De Rossi's contract, keeping him with the Serie A team until 2027. After spending 18 seasons as a player with Roma, De Rossi (40 years old) returned to his former team in January as a temporary coach until the end of the last season. De Rossi replaced Portuguese coach José Mourinho, who is now managing Fenerbahçe in Turkey. At the time of his appointment, Roma was in ninth place, and under the leadership of the former Italian player, the team improved to finish sixth in the league. Roma stated in a release: "Before the second leg of the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League, the club owners, the Friedkin Group, expressed their desire for Daniele De Rossi to continue." They added, "The club's intentions then shifted to a three-year contract, which the coach born in 1983 enthusiastically signed to continue his close association with his team, Roma." De Rossi led Roma to the semifinals of the Europa League, where they lost to Bayer Leverkusen, the German Bundesliga champions.
