Al-Azhar Sheikh Comments on the Decision to Halt War in Gaza

Al-Azhar in Egypt announced on Tuesday that Sheikh of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayyib welcomes the United Nations Security Council decision calling for an end to Israeli operations in Gaza, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the enclave, and the release of prisoners and hostages from both sides.

Al-Azhar stated in a statement published on its official account on the platform previously known as Twitter: "His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayyib welcomes the decision approved by the UN Security Council, which calls for halting the aggression on Gaza, the complete withdrawal of forces from the sector, the release of prisoners and hostages between both parties, the return of displaced persons to their homes, the immediate delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip, and moving forward towards the reconstruction of Gaza."

The statement added, "Al-Azhar hopes that the UN Security Council will be able to provide all necessary guarantees to implement this decision and ensure all parties adhere to it to save the blood of innocents."

Al-Azhar also emphasized that "although this decision comes late, after the deaths of more than 37,000 martyrs, it is a step in the right direction and represents a last opportunity to restore confidence in the international community and international institutions to promote global peace and security and grant the Palestinian people their right to establish an independent state," according to the statement.
