Sudani: Our Goal is to Maintain Iraq's Security and Sovereignty

The Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani emphasized during the inauguration of the new Air Defense Operations Command Center that "the new center is equipped with a modern high detection radar system, as part of the Air Defense Command's efforts to develop the infrastructure for monitoring and ensuring the safety of Iraqi airspace." He announced, "The government will continue to support and enhance the capabilities to command and control Iraqi airspace, protect it from violations, and improve real-time responsiveness." He praised "the efforts of the leaders and officers who participated in completing and operating this center, which was established in cooperation with the French company Thales, specializing in defense equipment, as part of plans to develop our armed forces' armament across various branches. The government has allocated nearly 5 trillion dinars for these goals, including 3 trillion in the 2024 budget, as part of the project to enhance armament capabilities." Al-Sudani clarified that "the goal of maintaining Iraq's security and sovereignty over its land, air, and waters is a central focus of the government's program in the defense sector and in addressing security challenges, especially in the post-international coalition mission phase."
