Bahraini wrestler Ahmad Tajoudinov won the gold medal today, Sunday, after defeating his Georgian counterpart, Givi Macharashvili, the silver medalist, by shoulder pinfall after 1 minute and 8 seconds into their match in the 97 kg category at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Meanwhile, Magomedkhan Magomedov from Azerbaijan claimed the bronze medal by defeating Ukrainian wrestler Moraz Metshidlidze 10-0, while Iranian Amir Ali Azarbirah secured bronze after winning 4-1 against American Kyle Snyder.
Tajoudinov's gold medal is the second for the Bahraini team at the Paris Olympics, following runner Winifred Yavi's gold in the 3,000 meters steeplechase. Previously, Bahraini runner Salwa Eid Naser won a silver medal in the 400 meters, and her compatriot weightlifter Gor Minasyan earned a bronze medal in the +102 kg category. Overall, Tajoudinov's gold is the seventh for Arabs in the Paris 2024 Olympics so far, following another from Bahrain, two from Algeria, and one each from Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia.
