Iran's foreign affairs supervisor, Ali Baqeri, discussed in a phone call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov the "criminal act committed by the Zionist entity in the martyrdom of Ismail Haniya, head of Hamas's political bureau, and the violation of the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its national security," according to the Tasnim International News Agency. Baqeri emphasized during these discussions that "the Zionist entity has crossed the red line."
He thanked Russia, as the President of the United Nations Security Council, for supporting Iran's request to hold an extraordinary session of this council and condemned "the actions of the United States and European countries in preventing condemnation of the assassination of martyr Ismail Haniya in Tehran." Baqeri affirmed that "cooperation between Moscow and Tehran can halt the aggressive actions of the Zionist entity that threaten peace and stability in the region."
For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov condemned the assassination of the head of Hamas's political bureau and the violation by the Israeli entity of Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating: "Although the United States and Europe prevented the Security Council from condemning this aggressive act, Russia has prepared a statement within the framework of the Friends of the United Nations Charter to condemn this act of aggression, which will soon be concluded and issued at the United Nations."
