A new biography has revealed that Prince William prevented his brother Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, from wearing late Princess Diana's jewelry at her wedding. Although Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton with their late mother's engagement ring, he was concerned about Prince Harry's decision to marry "Suits" star Meghan from the beginning and was keen to ensure that Markle did not wear any jewelry from Princess Diana’s collection.
It is said that Prince William urged Prince Harry to ease the relationship, giving Markle a chance to adjust to royal life before making a full commitment. These claims come from royal author Rob Jobson in his biography of the Princess of Wales (Middleton), where he explained that the rifts in Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship were evident even before Meghan officially joined the family in 2018.
Jobson wrote that William was still worried about the match and sought assurances from the Queen that his brother's future bride would not wear any jewelry from the collection that Diana once wore, despite allowing his wife Catherine to wear some due to her rank. Jobson explained: Harry claimed that the goodwill from William and Catherine had vanished long before the preparations for his wedding.
He continued: William candidly told his brother that it would be better to give Meghan more time to adapt to royal life and suggested he ease the relationship, which Harry took as an insult. As a result, “his relationship with his brother deteriorated rapidly.” According to Harry’s book “Spare,” William also allegedly physically attacked him.
Among other disclosures in the book is that the beginning of the relationship between Meghan and William and Kate was shaky due to Meghan’s disregard for royal hierarchy. It was noted that Meghan requested to borrow Catherine’s lip gloss after forgetting her own, which surprised Princess Kate, but she reluctantly handed it over. According to Harry, Kate grimaced after Meghan squeezed some on her finger and applied it to her lips.
It is worth mentioning that the relationship between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Prince and Princess of Wales has become nearly non-existent now, following Prince Harry and Meghan stepping back from their roles as working members of the royal family in 2020.
