Lebanese artist Carmen Lebbos justified her colleague, artist Ward El Khal, following the controversial statements that have been circulating recently among social media users.
Carmen sent a message to the Syrians, asking them not to believe everything shared by some pages, as it contains exaggerations. She wrote on her personal Twitter account: "To the people of Syria, my second country, because I am sure you love me as much as I love you, do not believe what is being said about Ward El Khal. Make sure she respects everyone." The Lebanese artist added: "Ward said that without joint works, young Syrian actors would not be as well-known in Lebanon, just as Lebanese actors would not have been known in Syria either. This is natural; do not listen to yellow journalism."
Ward El Khal responded to her colleague's post on her Instagram page, where she shared Carmen's statement through the stories feature and commented: "And you are my family and my friend in art, Carmen."
Ward El Khal's statements had sparked controversy on social media after a clip of her interview with one of the stations on November 24 of last year was circulated again, labeled as "racist statements." Ward justified her remarks in one of her interviews, stating: "I expressed my opinion regarding joint works, and this is a tangible reality; I did not say anything strange. Joint works have helped the Lebanese actor spread quickly in the Arab world, which is what other actors have also enjoyed on Lebanese soil."
