Mohamed Fathi began his football career at Dekernes Club in the second division and then took over as head coach of سماد طلخا in 2011. He participated in a football development project with the Zambian Football Association and received an offer to coach Kabwe Warriors, achieving fourth place in the 2008 season. He has led several clubs, including Power Dynamos in Zambia, Highlanders in Zimbabwe, and National Assembly in Zambia, before returning to Kabwe Warriors. He also served as the technical director for Lusaka Dynamos in Zambia and then joined NAPSA Stars in Zambia.
Mohamed Fathi has a close relationship with South African coach Pitso Mosimane of Al Ahly after they met while Sundowns was in preparation in Zambia in 2019.
