The Electricity and Water Authority in Bahrain, along with the Capital Municipality, announced that the issue of overdue municipal fees for several commercial establishments in the central market will be addressed, separate from electricity and water bills.
According to the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), both parties confirmed that municipal services provided for fees are in accordance with the provisions of the Municipalities Law and its executive regulation. They stated that, although the arrears may be old and accumulated, they should be settled within the framework established and regulated by the law. It was clarified that electricity service will not be cut off in case of restructured arrears.
They also pointed out that electricity service has not been cut off to the commercial stores in the Manama Central Market, as had been circulated, except for one store, which has since had its service restored. There will be careful consideration of the interests of traders and consumers, as well as the preservation of public funds, with coordination ongoing with shop owners regarding overdue municipal fees.
