Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed that the European Union suffers more than anyone else from the "reckless sanctions against Russia," draining its arsenal by supplying weapons to Kyiv, thereby becoming a stage for a single performer. In an article for the newspaper "Izvestia," Lavrov wrote: "Europe, which has been placed by Washington on the anti-Russia front, suffers more than others from the reckless sanctions, destroying its arsenals by supplying Kyiv with weapons without demanding accountability for who controls them and where they go, and has opened its market to expensive American military products and gas instead of reasonably priced Russian gas." He emphasized that "such trends, alongside the practical integration of the European Union with NATO, render discussions about the EU's 'strategic independence' mere theater." He added: "Everyone has realized that the foreign policy of the West is a stage event for a single performer, constantly seeking new stages for its military operations."
