Warnings from Wuhan Scientists about NeoCov Virus

Scientists from the Chinese city of Wuhan have warned about a new type of coronavirus called NeoCov, which originated in South Africa. They confirmed that its mortality and transmission rates are high, according to a report by the Russian agency Sputnik. The report highlights that the danger of the NeoCov virus lies in its relation to the MERS virus, which broke out in the Middle East in 2012 and 2015 and has a nature similar to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It states that the NeoCov virus has evolved in a group of bats in South Africa. According to researchers from Wuhan University and the Biophysics Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, only one mutation is needed for the virus to infect humans. Reports indicate that the structure of the NeoCov virus poses risks because it infects human cells differently than the current COVID infections, meaning that the antibodies resulting from previous infections or current COVID vaccines may not provide protection against it. According to Chinese researchers, NeoCov causes a higher mortality rate, resulting in one death for every three infected individuals.
