TikTok and Magnetic Balls: UK Health Authority Issues Warning

The UK National Health Service has called for a ban on small magnetic balls following a challenge on the TikTok app, where participants place two magnetic balls on either side of their tongue to simulate a pierced tongue. The authority warned about the dangers of swallowing these magnetic balls, as it can lead to severe health issues that may threaten the life of those who do so.

The NHS reported a noticeable increase in hospital visits from children who participated in the TikTok challenge and swallowed the magnetic balls. According to British news network Sky News, 11-year-old Ellis Trib suffered serious complications after swallowing several magnetic balls during the challenge. He underwent a six-hour surgery to remove the balls and had part of his intestine cut out.

Additionally, a 13-year-old girl swallowed 15 small magnetic balls and also required surgery. Ingesting these magnetic balls can result in them traveling to the intestines, exerting pressure on tissues, and cutting off blood supply. The NHS stated that anyone who swallows a magnet should immediately go to the nearest hospital, even if they show no symptoms.
