The First Virtual Wedding in Dubai

The Emirati capital, Dubai, witnessed its first virtual wedding in the metaverse, where a couple decided to renew their wedding vows, initially held in 2019 in Georgia, with another ceremony in the virtual world attended by avatar guests from 10 different countries. The wedding rings were also NFTs – non-fungible tokens.

The first virtual wedding took place simultaneously in The Springs complex in the Emirati capital, where family members and friends of the couple were present, including the groom's parents from France and the bride's parents from Paraguay. The groom, Florian Oguito, explained that one of the reasons for holding the event in the metaverse was that their families were upset about not being able to attend the wedding in 2019, so they seized the opportunity presented by ready technology to come together, deciding to explore it.

Oguito added that he and his wife, Liz Nunez, practiced walking down the aisle in The Springs, and their guests also trained on how to log in and interact in the metaverse.

**What is the Metaverse?**

The metaverse is a virtual world that uses augmented reality, 3D avatars, and videos for social interaction. In this virtual scene, there is a new world of social communication opportunities, including fashion shows, cinemas, restaurants, and weddings. This technology allows couples to choose their wedding venue and customized wedding dresses or suits. As in any wedding, guests are invited to attend the ceremony in avatar form.

The world of the metaverse has become a reality as many individuals have entered it. Some fashion designers have opened their own virtual stores, and some artists have held concerts there.
