Atletico Madrid Announces Players Tested Positive for Coronavirus Before Match Against Celta Vigo Today

The "Wanda Metropolitano" stadium is set to host a match between Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo in the closing of the 22nd round of the Spanish La Liga for the current 2020-2021 season.

Recently, Atletico Madrid announced that two of their players, Thomas Lemar and Hector Herrera, tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. They are currently isolating at their respective homes, following health authorities' recommendations and La Liga's protocol. The club issued an official statement on its website stating, "Players Hector Herrera and Thomas Lemar underwent medical tests prior to the team's match against Celta Vigo in accordance with La Liga's protocol, which revealed a positive result for COVID-19, confirmed later through PCR tests."

The statement further added that the players are remaining isolated at home, complying strictly with the health authorities' recommendations and La Liga's protocol. Notably, Atletico Madrid enters tonight's match at the top of the La Liga standings with 50 points, having two postponed matches, seven points ahead of second and third-placed teams Barcelona and Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Celta Vigo is in 11th place with 25 points.
