Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: Gas Agreement Between Hungary and Russian “Gazprom” a Blow to Kyiv

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba confirmed that the gas agreement signed by Hungary with Russian company "Gazprom" is a blow to Ukraine. The Ukrainian minister indicated that Ukraine will respond and that relations with Hungary have reached a point of conflict. Kuleba considered that Hungary has a political game to maintain good relations with both Russia and Ukraine, but he also affirmed that this game will not continue.

Moscow - Sputnik. The Ukrainian minister revealed that Budapest struck a blow to Ukrainian-Hungarian relations by bypassing the Ukrainian gas pipeline in the Russian gas supply scheme, and that Kyiv will respond accordingly. In a related context, Hungary rejected Ukraine's criticism of Budapest's deal with Russian company "Gazprom" to supply gas to Hungary without passing through Ukrainian territory.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto stated on Monday that "the route of supplies is determined by those who own the gas. As you know, we have been buying gas from Russia for the past 45 or 46 years." He added that "no one has the right to interfere in Hungary's energy decisions."

The Russian company "Gazprom" had signed a contract with Hungary to supply gas until 2036, with 3.5 billion cubic meters of gas being pumped annually through Serbia and one billion cubic meters annually through Austria.
