The Ansar Allah movement, through the statement of the Foreign Minister of the National Salvation Government, Hisham Sharaf Abdullah, has threatened to respond in kind if the airstrikes by the US-Saudi aggression coalition do not cease, along with the bombardment of cities and villages, and the ongoing detention of fuel and domestic gas ships by Saudi Arabia and its allies.
On Saturday, the Saba news agency, affiliated with Ansar Allah, reported that Abdullah, during a meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Ansar Allah in Sanaa, Hassan Irlo, reaffirmed the seriousness of the political leadership's declared positions in Sanaa, represented by the Supreme Political Council and the National Salvation Government, in pursuing a political settlement and achieving peace, while responding positively to international steps and initiatives in this direction.
The agency stated that the Foreign Minister confirmed readiness to confront and respond in kind if the airstrikes by the US-Saudi aggression coalition persist, targeting civilian sites, cities, and villages, and if the detention of fuel and domestic gas ships continues. Abdullah emphasized that Sanaa is capable and prepared to use its capabilities to make the ports and airports of the coalition’s capitals endure part of the suffering faced by the Yemeni people due to the US-Saudi aggression.
For his part, the Iranian ambassador in Sanaa affirmed his country’s support for a peaceful political solution, stating that there is no military solution to the situation in Yemen. He noted, "The Islamic Republic of Iran stands with any sincere approach that is implemented on the ground to bring peace to Yemen and its people." The Iranian ambassador highlighted Iran's support for the efforts of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen to end the aggression and lift the blockade, mentioning Iran’s earlier proposal for a four-point peace plan presented to the United Nations.
It is noteworthy that the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Ansar Allah group reached an agreement during peace negotiations in Sweden in late December 2018 regarding the port city of Hodeidah, which included a joint redeployment of forces from Hodeidah province and its ports back to agreed locations outside the city and ports. However, it should be noted that this agreement has not been implemented due to disputes between the two sides over its details, amid mutual accusations of violating the declared UN truce in the coastal governorate.
