The Tunisian Ministry of the Interior announced that on Tuesday evening, a security officer from the National Guard's maritime center in Djerba shot and killed a colleague using his personal weapon and seized it. "He then attempted to reach the area around the Ghriba synagogue and indiscriminately opened fire on the security units stationed there, who confronted him and prevented him from reaching the temple, resulting in his death." The interior ministry's statement noted that the incident led to the death of one security personnel and injured five others. Additionally, two visitors to the synagogue were killed, and four others sustained varying injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment. The Tunisian Ministry of the Interior confirmed that the temple was cordoned off, securing all those present inside and outside, and that an investigation is ongoing to determine the motives behind this attack.
