The Governor of Montana, Greg Gianforte, signed legislation yesterday, Wednesday, that bans the operation of the TikTok app in the state. This makes Montana the first state to prohibit the app and prevents mobile app stores from offering it within the state. TikTok stated earlier, "We will continue to fight for the users and creators of TikTok in Montana whose livelihoods and constitutional rights are threatened by this egregious government overreach." The app, owned by the Chinese technology company ByteDance, is facing increasing calls from some American lawmakers to be banned nationwide due to concerns regarding potential Chinese government influence over the platform.
