Biden Expects to Meet with Congressional Members to Discuss Debt Ceiling

U.S. President Joe Biden predicted yesterday, Sunday, that he would "meet with leaders in Congress tomorrow, Tuesday, for discussions on a plan to raise the debt ceiling and avoid a default that could lead to a major crisis." In statements to reporters in Delaware, Biden expressed optimism about reaching an agreement and believed "there is a willingness on both sides to come to an understanding," adding: "I think we will be able to accomplish that." Biden noted that he "received an update on how talks are progressing between administration officials and their counterparts in Congress." He mentioned that he still plans to visit Japan this week to attend a meeting of G7 leaders. Biden was scheduled to meet with House members next Friday, but the meeting has been postponed.
