Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stated today during a visit to Kyiv that Oslo will provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets, joining efforts led by the Netherlands and Denmark. Additionally, Støre announced during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that "Norway will send Ukraine anti-aircraft missiles and devices for mine clearance to assist in protecting its gas and energy supplies."
The Norwegian government indicated in a statement that the aid includes IRIS-T missiles, portable devices for creating corridors through minefields, and equipment for repairing critical electrical infrastructure. The statement remarked, "Providing support through air defense systems has been crucial in preventing Russia from gaining control over the airspace, thereby avoiding significant suffering for civilians and military losses." Støre added that "the missiles can be launched from units donated by Sweden."
