Israeli Finance Minister: The Government Bears Responsibility for Hamas Attack

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced today, Sunday, that the government bears responsibility for the devastating attack that allowed Hamas militants to enter Israel and kill hundreds of civilians. Smotrich, a key partner in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, said in a press conference, "We must honestly and painfully admit, with our heads bowed, that we, the state leadership and the security establishment, failed to ensure the safety of our citizens." He added, "We failed to implement the written contract, the first of its kind between the state and its citizens. A contract written in blood that is now stained with blood."
