Finnish President's Office: The Country Will Become a NATO Member Tomorrow

The Finnish presidential office, led by Sauli Niinistö, announced today, Monday, that the country will officially become a member of NATO tomorrow. Finland becomes a Member of NATO on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. President Niinistö will travel to Brussels to attend an accession ceremony at NATO Headquarters.

In turn, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated, "This is a historic week. Tomorrow we will welcome Finland as the 31st member of NATO, making Finland safer and NATO stronger."

Stoltenberg also noted that officials from NATO and Sweden are working to bring Sweden closer to joining the alliance soon. He mentioned on Friday that Finland would officially join the Western military alliance within days, following Turkey's decision to approve the matter. He highlighted that all 30 NATO member countries have ratified the accession protocol.

Meanwhile, Russian news agency reported Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko's statement that Moscow will strengthen its military capabilities in the western and northwestern regions of the country in response to Finland's expected accession to NATO tomorrow.
