Japan Announces Additional Aid to Palestinians

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa announced today, during a visit to the region that included Israel and Jordan, that her country will provide additional humanitarian assistance to Palestinians amounting to $65 million, stemming from concerns about the conflict in Gaza. In her remarks to reporters in Jordan after her meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and Palestinian counterpart Riyad Al-Maliki, Kamikawa called for a "humanitarian ceasefire for the escalating crisis in the sector." She added that "it is essential for Israel and Palestine to coexist peacefully to prevent the recurrence of any tragic terrorist act," noting that she conveyed Japan's ongoing support for a two-state solution to Cohen and Al-Maliki.
