Mutual Drone Attacks on Kyiv and Crimea

Officials announced that Russia launched an aerial attack on Kyiv this morning, during which explosions were heard across the city and its region for nearly two hours, with drone debris falling on several neighborhoods in the city center. The scale of the attack was not immediately clear. Witnesses from Reuters reported at least five explosions throughout Kyiv, and footage released by Ukrainian media showed damage to several vehicles. Kyiv's Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that one person was injured in the historic Podil district, and a fire broke out near one of the city's parks. Klitschko and the city's military administration reported that drone debris fell on several neighborhoods in the city.

In contrast, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that air defense systems destroyed eight drones launched by Ukraine over the Black Sea near the Crimean Peninsula in the early hours of Sunday. The ministry added on Telegram that American-made fast military boats carrying Ukrainian soldiers were destroyed northeast of Snake Island. The ministry did not clarify whether there were any damages or injuries resulting from the incidents. Reuters was unable to independently verify this information, and no comment has yet been issued by Ukraine regarding the attacks. Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, a move widely condemned by Kyiv's allies.
