Independent Iraqi parliament member Sajad Salem described the resistance in Iraq as a "lie" in response to a video released showing an Israeli researcher who was kidnapped. Salem stated that "what is called Islamic resistance in Iraq is a lie," arguing that "the events in Gaza revealed and confirmed that there is no Islamic resistance in Iraq, and nothing called resistance exists in Iraq." He viewed these militias as living in a state of humiliation, cowardice, and negligence, stating that they do not have any real response or practical program regarding the Palestinian issue. Salem also considered that "the militias, in an attempt to escape their shameful reality, are once again trying to tarnish the reputation of the October Revolution by disseminating a video of the kidnapped Israeli in Iraq and attempting to link the October protests to a foreign conspiracy. These militias have been spending huge amounts of money and weapons for years to defame October, and what has been published reflects their disgraceful reality and cowardice regarding what is happening in Palestine." Earlier, Iraqi media affiliated with Shiite armed groups published a video of the kidnapped Russian-Israeli academic Elizabeth Tsurkov.
