Iran Halts Sending New Ambassador to Sweden

The Islamic Republic of Iran has suspended the procedures for sending its new ambassador to Stockholm following an insult to the Quran in Sweden. An informed source in the Iranian Foreign Ministry told Fars News Agency that, despite the administrative procedures being completed for the new ambassador's departure to Sweden, the Foreign Ministry currently has no plans to send the new ambassador due to the insult to the Quran.

Following the insult to the Quran in Sweden, Iran had previously summoned the charge d'affaires of the Swedish embassy in Tehran in the absence of the ambassador, and expressed its strong protest against "this heinous act." It is notable that Hojjatollah Faghani has been appointed as Iran's new ambassador to Sweden and was expected to travel to Stockholm to assume his new position.
