The Ivory Coast national team secured their spot after defeating Mali with a score of two goals to one in a match held yesterday, Saturday, at the Peace Stadium during the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Swiss Salzburg forward Nini Dorgelis opened the scoring for Mali in the 73rd minute, but Brighton's Simon Adingra equalized in the 90th minute. As the match headed into extra time, Omar Diakite scored a dramatic goal for Ivory Coast in the 120+2 minute, as they aim for their third title. The Elephants will face the Democratic Republic of Congo in the semifinals on Wednesday at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
