Israeli fighter jets launched an attack today, Wednesday, on positions in the Al-Jamasa area in Tartus, resulting in the death of two Syrian soldiers and the injury of six others, along with a significant fire at the site. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported, citing a military source, that "the Israeli enemy carried out an aggression with barrage of missiles from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea targeting some of our air defense positions in Tartus, and the aggression led to the martyrdom of two soldiers, the injury of six others, and some material losses." The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that three members of "Hezbollah" were killed in the strike on an arms depot in the village of Al-Jamasa, with ambulances and firefighting vehicles seen heading to the targeted area.
The Russian news agency "Sputnik" reported that "the regime's air defenses repelled an Israeli aggression that attempted to target some points in rural Tartus." Military experts from Israel and other regional sources state that the strikes are part of an escalation in a conflict aimed at slowing the pace of Iranian entrenchment in Syria. The strikes were near the only Russian naval base on the Mediterranean in the port of Tartus, where Russian warships are docked, while the main Russian airbase in Khmeimim is also located in the nearby Latakia province.
