Lebanon Television Employees Announce Strike

The Union of Employees of Lebanon Television stated in a statement that "after the meeting held at the Ministry of Information on July 28, 2023, with the Union of Television Employees in Lebanon, attended by the Director-General of the Ministry of Information Hassan Falha and the President of the General Labor Union Bishara Asmar, the decision to stop work was suspended based on promises to receive our dues by this week, at the latest by Wednesday." They added: "However, we were surprised to find that there was an error in the processing, which will delay us receiving our dues, the same excuse we've been hearing repeatedly for months as we continue to wait for these promises, which employees at Lebanon Television no longer believe. Furthermore, as of this moment, not a single employee has been paid the monthly salary, which is insufficient for even one day of the month, raising concerns about the reasons for this delay." They continued: "In light of this situation, we announce an open-ended general strike starting Thursday morning until we receive our full entitlements. After communication with the administration of Lebanon Television was limited to media channels, we invite fellow media outlets to cover the press conference that the Union of Employees of Lebanon Television will hold tomorrow, Thursday, at 10:30 AM at the entrance of the Lebanon Television company on Talet al-Khayat. We also urge all colleagues at Lebanon Television to unite to voice our demands."
