Palestinian Authority Hopes for a Ceasefire in Gaza by Ramadan

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki stated today that the Palestinian Authority hopes to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza by the beginning of Ramadan. Speaking at a press conference at a diplomatic forum in Antalya, Turkey, al-Maliki said that the Palestinian Authority will be the "only legitimate authority" to manage Gaza after the war. The Palestinian Authority, which exercises limited self-rule in parts of the occupied West Bank, lost control of Gaza to Hamas in 2007. Israel and Hamas are negotiating through intermediaries for a potential ceasefire in Gaza by Ramadan, which will begin this year on March 10.
