Medvedev Struggles to Overcome Hurkacz to Reach Australian Open Semifinals

Daniil Medvedev, the third-seeded player, fought hard to defeat Hubert Hurkacz 7-6, 2-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in one of the closest quarterfinal matches held on Wednesday, earning a spot in the Australian Open semifinals for the third time. The Russian player, who has lost the tournament final at Melbourne Park twice, battled his Polish opponent for nearly four hours on Rod Laver Arena before finally setting up a meeting with Carlos Alcaraz or Alexander Zverev. Hurkacz, the ninth seed and only playing in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the second time, managed to come back from two sets down, making his Russian opponent work hard for every point. However, Medvedev, the former US Open champion who saved 10 of the 15 break points he faced during the match, successfully navigated this tough challenge to secure his place in the semifinals for the eighth time in a Grand Slam on the second match point.
