Raqqa: Arrest of a Senior Leader of ISIS

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported today, Friday, the arrest of a leader in the Islamic State (ISIS) after resisting capture during a security operation conducted by anti-terrorism forces, supported by coalition helicopters. This operation involved an exchange of gunfire that lasted for approximately one hour in an area about 14 kilometers west of Raqqa, in the farms of Yahrob, near makeshift camps along the road connecting the cities of Tabqa and Raqqa.

The operation followed the monitoring of the leader's movements in the area of the camps that shelter displaced individuals from Palmyra, Sukhnah, Aleppo, and Hama, where leaders and cells of ISIS are hiding among the displaced residents of these camps. There were reports of explosions in the area, alongside intense helicopter activity in the skies over the cities of Tabqa and Raqqa and the road connecting them, coinciding with the landing operation.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted that yesterday, Thursday, the "international coalition" conducted an airborne operation to arrest a cell belonging to ISIS in the western countryside of Raqqa, in collaboration with anti-terrorism forces of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
