The Roma star, Argentine Paulo Dybala, provoked Lazio player, Frenchman Matteo Guendouzi, in an unexpected way during their match on Saturday in the 31st round of Serie A. As is customary in matches of the Italian capital's derby, tension escalated at several points during the encounter, with players clashing at different moments in the second half, the most notable confrontation being between Dybala and Guendouzi.
A heated argument took place between the players in the 65th minute, leading to Guendouzi grabbing Dybala by the neck before players from both teams and the referee intervened to break up the scuffle. However, Dybala decided to escalate the situation and pulled out his shin guard, which features an image of him lifting the 2022 World Cup, won with his national team against the French team that included Guendouzi, causing the latter to lose his temper.
Tensions continued between the two after the final whistle, with images circulating of Dybala celebrating in front of Guendouzi after his team won 1-0 against Lazio. With this win, Roma returned to winning ways after a disappointing goalless draw against Lecce, solidifying their position in fifth place in the league with 55 points, while Lazio suffered their 13th loss of the season and the first after two consecutive wins, remaining at 46 points in seventh place.
